Your Opportunity:

As an Administrative Support III – Casual Payroll Pay Assistant, you will provide specialized administrative and payroll support to the payroll team and client areas, contributing to the accurate and timely processing of payroll for over 160,000 AHS employees. Working in a fast paced, deadline driven environment, this role is responsible for running payroll data queries, auditing payroll information, and updating employee pay schedules in Oracle e-People. You will process a wide range of payroll forms, including shift redistribution forms, TD1s, Acting Pay Forms, Records of Employment (ROEs), and banking information changes, as well as review and process expense claims and payment requisitions through electronic banking systems or printed cheques. The position supports client service by responding to payroll related inquiries through ServiceNow tickets, email, phone, and e Record requests, while also completing time entry, managing time exceptions, and assisting with entry level payroll audits for time and labour. This role requires a strong interest in payroll operations within a unionized, multi-employer environment, a commitment to excellent customer service, and an understanding of payroll processes and applicable legislation. The position includes occasional in office duties (2-3 times a week), such as mail collection from the Calgary Southport Mailroom during each biweekly pay period, and offers hybrid work eligibility, which will be assessed following completion of required in office orientation at the Calgary Southport tower building.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be enrolled with the National Payroll Institute (NPI) and will have either completed or be actively working toward Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification, with the Payroll Legislation Compliance course completed. A minimum of one (1) year of recent payroll experience in a large, unionized organization is required, including experience processing payroll in the Province of Alberta. The candidate must demonstrate strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook; experience with Oracle PeopleSoft is considered an asset. This position requires the ability to sit for extended periods throughout the workday. On required in-office days at the Calgary Southport location during each bi-weekly pay period, the employee must be able to walk for ten (10) minutes or more to the Southport Mailroom multiple times per day and may be required to lift boxes weighing ten (10) pounds or more, such as boxes of envelopes.

Preferred Qualifications:

Post-secondary education in business, finance, or accounting administration is preferred. Experience in government or healthcare environments is also preferred.
