Your Opportunity:
Within Cancer Care Alberta (CCA), Supportive Care: Psychosocial and Rehabilitation Oncology services are provided by a team of health care professionals dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of those affected by cancer by providing support and expert care from the time of diagnosis through treatment and beyond. The team of healthcare professionals working within Cancer Care Alberta are leaders in cancer diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and palliative care. The Supportive Care team is looking for a team-oriented, highly organized, experienced Administrative Assistant to join our team. The ideal administrative assistant needs to be knowledgeable about Allied Health disciplines and services, along with CCA’s teams and programs. The team is working on building capacity to ensure timely patient care which includes booking appointments, groups, and classes with a customer-focused approach. Maintaining calm, supportive, and respectful communication when interacting with distressed and/or stressed patients and staff with multiple demands will be instrumental to this role. Under the general supervision of the Manager, Supportive Care, North, this administrative assistant role provides a wide range of clerical duties to support the clinical staff working at the Cross Cancer Institute or Edmonton General Satellite location. Responsibilities include booking in-person and virtual appointments (including groups and classes), maintaining clinic schedules, faxing, photocopying, using various computer-based applications, managing connect care referral workqueues, building and updating clinician templates, interacting with patients and families, helping the public with wayfinding, answering program questions via phone/ email, and providing support and cross-coverage to administrative colleagues.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Medical Office Assistant and Unit Clerk Diploma/ Education. Medical terminology. Minimum two years administrative experience in a hospital or outpatient clinic setting. Minimum one year experience working in a cancer care setting. Minimum one year experience in an electronic scheduling environment (EPIC/Connect care preferred). At least 1 year experience booking and providing admin support to Allied Health disciplines (e.g. Psychology, social work, PT, OT, nursing). 3 years working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, MS Teams & Zoom). Effective self-management and time management paired with initiative and good judgement. Able to recognize confidentiality of patient information and other hospital information. Able to work independently in a directed setting and prioritize own workload. Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service and organization skills. Excellent attention to detail in recording meeting minutes, formatting, grammar and proof-reading skills, and filing. Ability to complete duties with numerous interruptions, including phone calls, emails, and in person interactions in a calm, courteous and effective manner. Ability to be a healthy team member with a positive team-oriented attitude and one who contributes to a positive working environment.
Preferred Qualifications:At least 1 years’ experience booking and providing administrative support for Allied Health disciplines (e.g. social work, psychology, nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy) in an outpatient or inpatient setting. Non-violent crisis intervention training. Connect care Training: Ambulatory Unit Clerk with Clinic Referrals, Schegistrar.
