Your Opportunity:

The Indigenous Wellness Core (IWC) works in collaboration and partnership across Alberta Health Services and with all external partners to support innovation and improvement in Indigenous Health and to work towards health equity for Indigenous peoples and communities. The IWC has a significant opportunity to improve the health of Indigenous Peoples in Alberta by focusing on upstream efforts and health equity, creating and building on community empowerment and action, and transforming health service delivery to address racism and focus more on determinants of health and prevention. The IWC is the mechanism through which AHS plans to achieve on-going provincial improvement in Indigenous health, patient outcomes and experience, health improvement and sustainability of Alberta’s health system. Administrative Support III is a working-level, multi-skilled position that provides administrative support to the Indigenous Wellness Clinic. Working under minimal guidance and direction Administrative Support III utilizes enhanced skills to perform varied activities such as being in charge of Connect Care front desk in-baskets, answering phones, prescreening confirmation calls for COVID-19, checking in/out patients, chart preparation, faxing, referrals, scanning, rebooking appointments, calling registration for patients, not in system, financial forms, letters for medical transportation, offering refreshments, cleaning, screening patients upon arrival, third party chart requests, recall/follow ups lists, facilities and housekeeping requests. Additionally, the Administrative Support III solves a range of problems with discretion to vary from established procedures. Work at this level requires proficient skills and experience gained through education and significant on-the-job training.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of some post-secondary education (e.g. course(s) in the office of business administration, medical office assistant). Knowledge and operation of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Working knowledge of the healthcare system and medical terminology. Demonstrated proficiency in the English language, both written and oral required. Knowledge of AHS/RAH computer programs/systems such as Connect Care, VAX, and NetCare. Must have excellent communication skills as there is a high degree of interaction with patients and a variety of disciplines at all levels of the organization. Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in an Indigenous Health setting will be considered an asset. Knowledge of and sensitivity around the culture, health issues, treaty rights, jurisdictional issues, and historical impact of the urban and rural Indigenous people/communities in Alberta is considered an asset. The ability to speak or understand an Indigenous language is considered an asset.
