Addictions Counselor III
Your Opportunity:
An exciting opportunity exists for an Addictions Counsellor III who is responsible for providing consultation, assessment, screening, referral, system navigation and counselling services to clients within the AMH Assertive Community Treatment team (ACT). Location of work is shared between the ACT team and Edmonton Navigation and Support Centre. The Addictions Counsellor will perform professional recovery addictions work in the areas of treatment, prevention and community capacity building. This work includes: assessment, treatment, referral, guidance and support to persons or groups of persons in order to assist individuals experiencing problems related to alcohol, other drug, tobacco and gambling, and co-occurring addiction and mental health problems; providing individual and group counselling to improve health and to promote personal development and recovery and harm reduction resulting in changes to substance use, tobacco, gambling and process disorders; consultation with health care professionals, communities, and other professionals on issues related to prevention and treatment; and, acting as a resource providing mentorship and support to internal, allied, contracted, and community stakeholders. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.
Additional Required Qualifications:1-2 years' experience working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and in counselling. Proficient knowledge and training in models of addiction, group process, crisis management (suicide risk assessment), and the psychological and physiological impact of substance use/abuse and process addictions. Working knowledge of Opioid Agonist Therapy. Experience using motivational interviewing and solution-focused interventions. Must be competent in identifying clients at risk and completing a suicide risk assessment. Experience using a recovery-oriented, client-centered approach. Knowledge, awareness and sensitivity to working with diverse populations. Excellent interpersonal skills and well developed written and verbal skills. Proficiency with computers, including MS Office Suite and Connect Care.
Preferred Qualifications:Working knowledge of Trauma Informed Care. Experience working with homeless and vulnerable individuals. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training. Current BLS.
