Your Opportunity:

The Acute Care Manager – Renal Medicine for Unit 31 at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre is responsible and accountable for making department-level decisions and having direct leadership responsibilities that contribute to the provision of patient-centered care. The Clinical Manager will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders who include patients, staff, physicians, and community stakeholders. These responsibilities are performed in collaboration with the Director, Emergency Services and Inpatient Medicine while building excellent relationships with the physician partners.


The Acute Care Manager – Renal Medicine will support the development or administration of policy and programs to support patient and family focused care and collaborative practices within the program. Will provide leadership through effective communication, ethical decision making and commitment to achieving established goals and objectives, ensuring outcome measurements and standards are enforced. Will contribute to the formulation of policies, developing programs, development of workflow and administering programs within a staffing model consisting of professional and non-professional health care occupational groups. Responsible for recruitment and hiring of staff and ensures adequate staff coverage. Will provide feedback to staff to improve performance and support learning needs, in addition, to return to work accommodation and WCB, accident/injury investigation. The successful candidate will have an understanding of budgeting, expenditures, billing and cost drivers that have an impact on the program to optimize efficiencies. Commits to continually improve health and safety performance through the promotion of a culture which supports adherence to the regulations and policies of safe workplace practices as outlined by AHS.

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree with current registration and membership in good standing with a professional college as required. Working knowledge of the health care system or related area is required. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.

The incumbent will also possess a record of accomplishment in the following areas: Progressive leadership experience in a related field; effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, and client focused orientation and a commitment to providing quality services; leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others; demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues; ability to manage human, financial and physical resources within the operating environment; Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within an organization and ideally managing within a unionized sector; strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships within internal and external stakeholders; effective leadership abilities combined with a strong commitment to operating within a team environment and the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve common goals; excellent analytical and decision making skills; ability to plan, organize and manage short and long term plans and projects and deliver customer focused results; ability to foster a climate of cooperation amongst and build solid relationships with public agencies, government, committees and other partners.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Master’s Degree is preferred. A minimum of 5 years management experience, with health care experience is preferred. Project Management experience preferred.
