The Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH) is a bright modern, family centered facility that is a cornerstone for quality care and research for the children of Calgary and southern Alberta. ACH is the largest public hospital for medically complex children in Alberta. Reporting to the Manager, Patient Care you will have direct responsibility for ambulatory medical clinics in Orthopedics, Neurology and Rheumatology and aligned Rehabilitation programs. Working closely with physician leads you will be responsible for the overall program development and operational management of the assigned areas including facilitating change management, promoting team development and providing overall operational direction and input to budgets for the service as a whole. As a Unit Manager (UM), ACH Ambulatory Portfolio, you will work together with the PCM and other Unit Managers to provide patient and family services that are high quality, accessible and sustainable. You will be responsible for providing employee supervision and support the functions of staff recruitment, coaching and performance management and facilitating the achievement of strategic goals for all areas of the portfolio in collaboration with the program staff, Discipline Leaders and Physician Leads. The UM will have a demonstrated desire for continuous improvement and innovation, be able to function well in a team environment, becoming an integral part of a committed leadership team. As the successful candidate you will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be an advocate for patient engagement, model patient and family centered care, be a great team player and be a leader for change to meet our growing population needs.

Description:

As the Unit Manager you are responsible for the overall program development and operational management of the Ambulatory Medical Clinic stream at the Alberta Children's Hospital including Orthopedics, Neurology and Rhuematology and aligned Rehabilitation Clinics which may include Orthotics, Movement Assessment Center, Seating and Head Shape. The Unit Manager is responsible and accountable for making unit-level decisions on people and equipment resources and having direct leadership responsibility for contributing to the achievement of the goals of the Child Health Portfolio. This position directly reports to the Manager, Patient Care and works closely with Physician and Allied Health Leadership. The unit manager will demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: 1. Self-direction, decision making and critical thinking 2. Initiation, planning, implementation and evaluation of change 3. Coaching and mentorship to inspire and build competency in others 4. Organization, ability to work under pressure and manage multiple competing priorities 5. Effective written and verbal communication 6. Collaboration with stakeholders and the Multi-disciplinary health care team to achieve common goals 7. Promotion of patient and family centered care, patient and staff safety and quality care 8. Program and Service Delivery quality Improvement 9. Support for the integration of clinical and research.

Required Qualifications:

Degree in health care discipline or other related degree. Minimum of five years of relevant progressive clinical experience. Three years of progressive administrative or management experience. Proven leadership and organizational skills. Ability to collaborate with physicians, discipline leaders and other program leadership. Excellent communication and facilitation skills in multidisciplinary team environment. Demonstrated ability to work internal to the ACH, and confidence to represent the Medical Clinic voice within the community and provincial platforms (ie: CONNECT CARE). Self-directed and highly motivated. Creative and adaptable. Ability to function effectively in dynamic situations. Demonstrated understanding of conflict resolution, change leadership and coaching for performance. Demonstrated ability to develop effective relationships with staff, physicians and program leadership. Ability to complete qualitative and quantitative analysis. Computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Completion of or working on an advanced level degree preferred. Ambulatory Care Experience preferred. Pediatric Experience preferred.
