Under limited supervision, the Unit Clerk is responsible for performing clerical and receptionist duties for the Nursing unit and transcribing physician's orders when required. The Unit Clerk is instrumental in facilitating communication between Nursing and other health disciplines, departments, patients and families, and in maintaining confidentiality of patient information. The position is a major asset to the smooth and efficient operation of the Nursing unit.
Description:
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:A Unit Clerk certificate (with practicum component) from a recognized post-secondary institution is required. Unit Clerk experience is required. Minimum of 3 years recent (within the last 5 years) acute care required. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word required. Experience with Connect Care, ESP, and Vocera required. Accuracy and attention to detail essential. Proven interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills. Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision. Capable of working in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment with patients of varying acuity. Proven problem-solving and ability to prioritize as work environment consists of frequent interruptions, numerous demands, and conflicting priorities. Must be self-motivated and able to set priorities and meet firm deadlines. Time management skill is an essential. Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment. Able to recognize and maintain confidential information. Assists in orientation of new staff and students.
Preferred Qualifications:Successful completion of a recognized course in medical terminology preferred. Experience in taking meeting minutes preferred.
