Required Qualifications:

Completion of post-secondary diploma in a related field.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Heart and Stroke Instructor certificate is required. Demonstrated competency and proficiency with the established Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider course curriculum and associated research (ILCOR) evidence. Understanding of and adherence to Heart and Stroke guidelines (re: BLS card requirements/late arrivals/etc). Instructors must be acutely aware of applying consistently the guidelines and standards to participants in order to ensure the quality and integrity of the centralized BLS program. Minimum of 3 years related work experience preferably in a health services related position. Experience providing education to groups of adults and demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles. Instructors must work well independently and in a team environment and have the ability to collaborate with other instructors and to mentor new instructors in their roles. Instructors must demonstrate competence and confidence instructing groups of 6 to 18 people at one time with or without co-instructor support. Excellent interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills. Strong communication skills (verbal and written). Conflict management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Use of video-based program is required, basic knowledge of running and troubleshooting audiovisual equipment. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot teaching/participant complications using HSF standards to guide decision making-i.e. walk in students/too many participants/equipment missing/etc.
