Your Opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity for a trained speech therapy assistant within our Allied Health team. If you are passionate about working with children, and like to be challenged also by working with adults, than this position includes a variety of direct patient care and clinical support responsibilities that provide assistance to Speech Language Pathologists. The assistant works under the direct supervision of a speech-language pathologist. The position requires initiative and judgment applied in accordance with established practices and procedures. The assistant will work in the hospital across the continuum of care and schools. The assistant also assists in the maintenance and operation of the treatment areas. The assistant is responsible for: Following program outlines as set out by the therapist. Develop lesson plans and activities for clients using appropriate material and procedures. Consult with the SLP on a regular basis. Complete and maintain accurate written documentation and enter daily statistics. The position allows for innovation and new ideas as we are always looking for ways to improve services provided to our clients. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Northern Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $6,300. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. The town of High Level is located in the scenic northwestern reaches of Alberta. With a population of approximately 3,600 and serving a trade area of 12,000, High Level offers a bustling economy with the local service area committed to ensuring their residents have access to optimal healthcare. As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Speech Language Assistance diploma from a recognized communication disorders assistant program. Must be an independent worker. Ability to manage multiple tasks. Independent decision making skills. Good comprehension of both spoken and written English. Ability to prioritize tasks from multiple sources and people. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Basic computer skills required. Ability to function as an effective team member. Understanding of and commitment to a Family Centred Care service delivery model.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience working with young children in an organized setting desirable.
