Your Opportunity:

We are looking for a Protective Services Officer II that is familiar with Canadian Law as well as current legislation relating to fire, security and law enforcement. Someone that understands the application of security technology in assessing situations and has strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and administrative skills. Self-defense training including restraint and handcuffing techniques are an asset as well. Computer application skills in a Microsoft Window/Office environment and good documentation and report writing skills is an asset as well. Effective handling of stress, conflict/negotiation skills is needed. Must be physically fit to respond to fire and/or security related emergencies with AHS. Physical exertion required with lifting, pushing, pulling, restraining and standing for long periods of time. Ability to provide a positive and friendly approach that will enable you to deal with challenging situations with empathy and sincerity. Ability to work effectively independently, and within a team, effectively managing his or her time and setting priorities when faced with multiple tasks and deadlines over a period of time. Open to occasion travel and possible overnight stay based on out of zone urgent response requirements. Ability to follow and adhere to Alberta Health Services policies, procedures, goals and objectives including privacy and confidentiality concerns. Shift Pattern: 4 On 4 Off. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

The Team Lead for Protective Services performs a team leadership role within the Protective Services department and reports directly to the Manager of Operations – Protective Services. This position is responsible and accountable for providing the direction, team leadership and organization over the activities of the Protective Services Team in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services. The position is responsible and accountable for making unit-level decisions and having a leadership responsibility for contributing to the achievement of the goals of the Protective Services Department. The Team Lead for Protective Services will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

Valid class 5 non-GDL driver's license. Currently have or able to attain and maintain a Community Peace Officer Level 1 designation within one year. Valid PARE. Minimum 2 years experience in a security role. Ideally in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity (healthcare experience an asset).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Public speaking capabilities. Proven multi-tasking and effective decision-making abilities in a fast paced, stressful environment. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development.

Preferred Qualifications:

2 years post-secondary education in Law Enforcement, Social Studies, or Security & Asset protection. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered. WHMIS training preferred. Certificate in CPI Non-violent Crisis Intervention an asset. Valid First Aid certificate preferred; valid BCLS - Level C certificate preferred. Pressure Point Control Tactic Certificate an asset.
