Duties: The Service Worker II - Adult Surgery Suite will provide support within Operative Services Level III, including the operating theatres and the recovery room. Primary responsibilities include patient transportation, assisting both nursing and medical staff with surgical positioning and preparation of patients undergoing surgery, cleaning, setup and restocking of the operating rooms and the safe handling of medical equipment and sterile products.


As a Service Worker II, you will be responsible for readying supplies, and disinfecting instruments and specialty equipment for immediate use/reuse by unit staff. You will transport patients (clients, residents) and equipment to and from different units when needed and distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout units. You may also transports lab specimens, blood and blood products, clean patient care equipment and transport patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required. In addition to the duties of a Service Worker I, you will ensure that exam rooms and multipurpose rooms are accurately stocked and that specialty equipment required by the medical and nursing staff is available.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current Basic Life Support (Level C) is required. Must be able to read and communicate fluently in the English language. Must be able to work in a physically demanding environment as part of a multidisciplinary team while maintaining confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of anatomy and body mechanics is an asset along with a true interest in health care and the desire to help others. Experience as a Service Worker II is an asset. Current employment in a Service Worker II position or higher is an asset.
