Your Opportunity:

The Finance department has an opportunity for a co-operative education student to support the Revenue department. Under the supervision of the manager and mentoring by senior financial analysts, the Revenue Work Experience Student is responsible for work that improves the process and reporting of revenue and restricted funding. The Revenue department ensures that revenues are accurately accounted for and reported on AHS’ financial statements, and that the financial sections of grant agreements with various funding agencies are compliant with AHS policies and standards. We work closely with stakeholders and the funding agencies to resolve issues that arise at any point of the revenue cycle, and to ensure compliance with any restrictions imposed by the revenue grant agreements. We also assist in the development the AHS’ financial plan through accurate revenue budgeting and forecasting and analysis of risks associated with various revenue sources.

Description:

The Revenue Work Experience Student’s key responsibilities include review the financial aspect of complex revenue contracts and grant proposals to ensure compliance with AHS policies and standards; Facilitate the approval process of grant agreements and proposals by coordinating the review by multiple departments within AHS; Work with Accounts Receivable to ensure timely and accurate processing of Alberta Health funds received; Monitor and audit usage of funds; Assist with account reconciliations; Prepare journal entries; Prepare year-end working papers; Ad-hoc tasks and duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Enrolment in a supervised co-operative education program required. Completion of 2 or 3 years of university in Business Administration required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Strong critical thinking, written, and oral communication skills. Very strong Microsoft Excel skills. Resourceful self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively on a given task. Strong attention to detail and good organization skills. Ability to multi-task and work with multiple priorities. Strong interpersonal skills to provide a high level of customer service to internal clients. Interest in process improvement. Basic understanding of accounting is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to those majoring in accounting or finance. Project management skills would be an asset.
