Your Opportunity:

In addition to providing safe, ethical nursing care, the Registered Nurse / Registered Psychiatric Nurse integrates knowledge, skills and ability to ensure ongoing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care of the mental health pediatric day patient. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse / Registered Psychiatric Nurse facilitates collaborative planning with the family and patient central to the decision making process. The incumbent is reliable and maintains a high degree of professionalism. Responsibilities include participation in activities and initiatives aimed at promoting, maintaining, and improving quality and safety for patients, families, and caregivers. Responsibilities also include advocating for children in schools and triaging for treatment, as well as parent/school teaching on illnesses, medications, and funding requirements. NOTE: FTE is based on the Edmonton Public School Calendar. Employee works full-time during the school calendar year and is off during school closure periods including Easter, Spring Break, Christmas and summer holidays.


As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Recent experience working in a children’s mental health care setting for at least two years required. Must have proven communication, behavioral management, clinical observation and assessment skills. Must have knowledge of the treatment and medications used to treat children and adolescents with neuropsychiatric illness.

Preferred Qualifications:

BScN preferred. Experience in working with a multidisciplinary team would be an asset.
