Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Must be comfortable working in all weather conditions, including winter. Must be comfortable driving in winter conditions. Must be comfortable working with COVID testing and symptomatic clients. Public Health Nurses are required to perform physical duties including, gathering clinical supplies, accessing upper and lower cabinetry, moving clinical supplies to community clinics, home visits, bending, crouching to support feeding/immunization of young kids, can move up to 50 pounds at times, navigate awkward positions. The PHN is required to pack, lift, move, and transport heavy and/or awkward supplies to various work sites. Service delivery may require walking several blocks and climbing several flights of stairs, awkward and repetitive movements, sitting, standing, and/or bending for long periods of time.
Preferred Qualifications:Baccalaureate degree in nursing is preferred. Other relevant skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in the community sector will be considered. Other desirable recent nursing experience includes maternal/postpartum and newborn assessment. Minimum 2 years’ experience within the last 5 years working in a public health nursing unit performing duties supporting: Communicable Disease Control, immunization, Healthy Beginnings, and Child Health Clinic is preferred.
