Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Public Health nursing experience including immunization, Healthy Beginnings, and Child Health Clinic. Other desirable recent nursing experience includes maternal/postpartum and newborn. Minimum 2 years’ experience within the last 5 years working in a public health nursing unit performing duties supporting: Communicable Disease Control, immunization, Healthy Beginnings, and Child Health Clinic. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision in a complex dynamic environment. Effective communication skills required, oral and written. Demonstrated advanced critical thinking skills and demonstrated decision making skills. Public Health Nurses are required to perform physical duties including, gathering clinical supplies, accessing upper and lower cabinetry, moving clinical supplies to community clinics, home visits, bending, crouching to support feeding/immunization of young kids, can move up to 50 pounds at times, navigate awkward positions. The PHN is required to pack, lift, move, and transport heavy and/or awkward supplies to various work sites.
Preferred Qualifications:Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in the community sector will be considered. Other recent nursing experience including: pre-natal, labor and delivery, postpartum, or working with young families or pediatric population is as asset. Other maternal/newborn certifications such as breastfeeding courses, lactation consultant, and childbirth education are an asset.
