Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must work days, evenings, weekends and on-call and be able to arrive at the hospital within 20 minutes when called back to work. If no candidates with recent OR or PACU experience, consideration may be given to candidates with 2-3 years recent acute care surgical nursing experience. Demonstrated knowledge of commonly encountered disease entities, associated nursing diagnoses/problem statement, effects of medical and surgical interventions, and concomitant nursing interventions required. Experience with application of professional knowledge, technical and interpersonal skills, and clinical judgment in the delivery of professional nursing. Ability to handle heavy or awkward items (lifting, transferring, carrying), and withstand considerable walking or standing. Adherence to nursing policy and practice standards and Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics. Ability to be physically confined to an area due to job demands. Ability to maintain confidentiality of all patient information and health records. Ability to identify own strengths and weaknesses and showing initiative for improvement. Ability to work effectively and efficiently with others and accept change.

Preferred Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred. ACLS certification preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with recent relevant OR or PACU experience.
