Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Recent completion of a recognized Critical Care course with 1 year of adult critical care experience is required. Candidates without previous Adult ICU experience or certification are welcome to apply and may be considered for the AHS Critical Care Orientation program (OPACCA). OPACCA is a theory training and orientation program facilitated in a classroom setting followed by buddy shifts on the unit with clinical instructor supervision. Candidate must achieve a grade of 75% or higher on theory to continue to the clinical assessment. Demonstration of excellent assessment, documentation, clinical, communication, organizational and patient care skills is necessary for successful completion of the Clinical Assessment and to continue employment with the Critical Care Program. Alberta Health Services reserves the ability to hire individuals with less experience or education. Candidates must display excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills and have the ability to critically think. Leadership skills and proven mentorships skills are a must. Candidates must show the ability to identify own learning needs, seek guidance in professional practice when deficits occur and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth and development. A commitment to providing quality patient and family centered care in a team environment must be demonstrated. Charge Nurse Duties may be required following successful orientation to the role.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certifications or training with: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), CNA Critical Care Certification, intermittent hemodialysis and/or CRRT training, Specialized Clinical Competencies for adult critical care, and cardiac rhythm analysis training. Previous experience within an Intensive Care setting, CVICU, Neuro ICU, CICU, Peds ICU, observation room setting or experience with ventilated patients.
