The South Health Campus (SHC) is a full service hospital that provides services to Calgary in high need areas including Women’s Health, NICU, Emergency, Surgery and Mental Health. The SHC is more than just a “hospital”. It is a campus environment and includes inpatient, outpatient, and wellness services, as well as prevention and public health learning opportunities for the community. The campus also includes a YMCA and retail services. The Cardiac Inpatient (ACU 66), working collaboratively with all the clinical teams spread across the South Health Campus, is in the process of hiring a Registered Nurse (RN). Our unit offers a unique opportunity to work with acute General Internal Medicine and Cardiology patients in a modern environment. The RN works as a key member of the interdisciplinary of the health care team and collaborates with other staff, Physicians, Allied Health and Support Workers to provide comprehensive, quality care to patients and families at the Campus. The RN provides leadership in nursing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, preventing illness, injury, and disability, and supporting a peaceful death. The RN is accountable to the public for his/her own practice and is responsible for ensuring that practice meets legislative requirements, the practice standards set by the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA), and the Canadian Code of Ethics. The RN is guided by their education, expertise, experience and demonstrated skill level and AHS policies, procedures and job description.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 1 year experience on an Acute Care Adult Medical Unit within the last 2 years is required or completion of Nursing Final Focus in ICU/CCU, Cardiology, Internal Medicine or a Unit with similar acuity is required. The RN will demonstrate an understanding and compliance with the AHS code of conduct. Demonstrated proficiency in clinical assessment skills and sound nursing judgement. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain collaborative working relationships with members of the multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills. High functioning time management and prioritization skills.
Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred. Experience in Acute Care Inpatient Cardiology Unit preferred. Current telemetry certification preferred. PVAD & CVAD Certification preferred. Experience with Chest Tube management preferred. Inpatient Connect Care proficiency preferred. Charge Nurse experience preferred. Experience with family centered care preferred.
