Your Opportunity:

The UAH Medicine Relief Team at the University of Alberta Hospital provides relief (float) staff to 13 medicine units providing care for General Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pulmonary, Nephrology, GI and Hematology patients. The Medicine program is a dynamic and fast-paced adult acute care program dedicated to best practice in providing patient and family centered care. Care is delivered by an interdisciplinary collaborative care team in accordance with the AHS Values, hospital policies and nursing care standards.


As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current CPR (BCLS) certification required. Basic computer and email skills required. Experience working within an acute care practice setting within the last year required or a recent graduation from a recognized nursing school within the last year. Interpersonal, organizational and assessment skills. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the interdisciplinary team. Ability to work independently while maintain collaboration with team members. Ability to adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating workloads and work conditions. Accountability, critical thinking, time management and communication skills. Ability to respond to new needs in the role as they arise, with initiative and self-direction.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a casual or float position preferred. Experience working within the CoACT framework preferred. Order Processing and Transcription experience preferred. Charge Nurse Experience preferred. IV Certification preferred. Ventilator skills preferred.
