Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in nursing is preferred. Other relevant skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in the community sector will be considered. Other desirable recent nursing experience includes maternal/postpartum and newborn assessment. Knowledge of Meditech, Care Manager, CMPH Public Health processes is preferred. Public Health nursing experience including immunization, Healthy Beginnings, and Child Health Clinic preferred. Minimum 2 years’ experience within the last 5 years working in a public health nursing unit performing duties supporting: Communicable Disease Control, immunization, Healthy Beginnings, and Child Health Clinic is preferred. Other recent nursing experience including: pre-natal, labor and delivery, postpartum, or working with young families or pediatric population is as asset. Other maternal/newborn certifications such as breastfeeding courses, lactation consultant, and childbirth education are an asset.

Preferred Qualifications:

Public Health Nurses are required to perform physical duties including, gathering clinical supplies, accessing upper and lower cabinetry, moving clinical supplies to community clinics, home visits, bending, crouching to support feeding/immunization of young kids, can move up to 50 pounds at times, navigate awkward positions. The PHN is required to pack, lift, move, and transport heavy and/or awkward supplies to various work sites.
