Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of a recognized Critical Care Certification or OPACCA orientation with 1 year of critical care experience attained within the last 3 years. You may be required to successfully complete the Alberta Health Services Critical Care Challenge Exam (this will be determined upon at interview dependent on your Critical Care experience). If no critical care experience, you will need at least 2 years acute care med/surg experience attained in the last 3 years. You will also be required to successfully complete the AHS Critical Care Orientation program (OPACCA). OPACCA is a 4 week theory training and orientation program facilitated in a classroom setting followed by 10-12 buddy shifts on the unit with a clinical instructor. Candidate must achieve a grade of 75% or higher on theory to continue to the clinical assessment. You must pass the clinical assessment to continue employment with the Critical Care Program. Demonstrated excellent assessment, documentation, clinical, organizational and patient care skills, and proficient at medication administration calculations. Ability to communicate findings in a concise and accurate manner. Strong interpersonal, stress management, conflict management and problem solving skills. Must be able to identify own learning needs and seek guidance in professional practice where knowledge deficit occurs. Alberta Health Services reserves the ability to hire individuals with less experience or education.

Preferred Qualifications:

A member of the Canadian Association of Critical Care Nurses (CACCN). Certifications with: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS), Canadian Nurses Association (CNA), International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). Wound Care Experience and/or Certification. Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC). Previous OBS/Cardiac/Pediatric experience.
