Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Required certification/current experience with IV initiation, phlebotomy, care of the ventilated patient, and ECG Analysis. Excellent assessment, organizational leadership, and patient care skills. Ability to communicate findings (verbal and written) in a concise and accurate manner. Strong interpersonal & problem solving skills. Proven reliability/dependability. Adaptable to a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment with high acuity patients. Ability to deal with unpredictable and stressful environment. Ability to maintain a physically demanding job. 5 years of current adult surgical nursing and/or critical care experience. Phase II recovery experience (within the past 3 years). At least 4-6 months current PACU experience within a tertiary setting. Advanced knowledge of regional anesthesia, neuroaxial anesthesia, multimodal analgesia and chronic pain. Must be able to work staggered shifts, possibly extended shifts.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous orientation/preceptorship for new staff and students. ACLS. Experience with patient care quality improvement/quality assurance. Canadian Nurses Association in Perianesthesia Nursing, Critical Care, and/or Medical/Surgical Certification. National Association of Perianesthesia Nurses of Canada membership.
