Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Adherence to nursing policy and practice standards. Adherence to Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics. Ability to be physically confined to an area due to job demands. Ability to maintain confidentiality of all patient information and health records. Ability to identify own strengths and weaknesses and showing initiative for improvement. Ability to work effectively and efficiently with others and accept change. Must work days, evenings, weekends and on-call and arrive at the hospital within 20 minutes when called back to work. Preference will be given to candidates in the following order - candidates who have completed an accredited post-basic peri-operative course followed by candidates enrolled in an accredited post-basic peri-operative course, candidates with recent OR experience followed by candidates with recent PACU experience. If no candidates with recent OR/PACU experience, consideration may be given to candidates with 2-3 years recent acute care surgical nursing experience. Demonstrated knowledge of commonly encountered disease entities, associated nursing diagnoses/problem statement, effects of medical and surgical interventions, and concomitant nursing interventions required. Experience with application of professional knowledge, technical and interpersonal skills, and clinical judgment in the delivery of professional nursing. Ability to handle heavy or awkward items (lifting, transferring, carrying), and withstand considerable walking or standing.

Preferred Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred. ACLS certification preferred.
