Your Opportunity:

As a member of the Barrhead Pharmacy Production Centre, you will have the opportunity to work with Pharmacy Assistants and Pharmacists working to their full scope of practice. The Barrhead Pharmacy Production Centre is a pharmacy medication distribution center that provides medication management services for the AHS Healthcare Facilities located in North Zone – East. Key Responsibilities: Pharmacy Technicians perform all aspects of medication management and drug distribution to provide for the effective daily operation of all departmental services and programs leading to safe and effective patient care. Core duties may include, but are not limited to: Order entry, verification, medication preparation, repackaging of medications with the use of automated packaging and manual repackaging equipment, final product checking potentially with the use of automation of any form of medications that may include both sterile and non-sterile potentially chemotherapy related individual patient prescriptions and ward stock, inventory management in regards to ordering, receiving, and medication maintenance with a responsibility for turnover to reduce expiring medications. Participating in training and orientation of staff and students. Providing clinical support through obtaining information to facilitate medication reconciliation activities and clarifies discrepancies and/or collects and organizes information to support the provision of direct patient care. Building interactive relationships with all members of the healthcare team including communicating with pharmacy staff to clarify orders and requests, triaging drug information questions and distribution issues. Performs other duties deemed necessary or assigned.


As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. You will receive and triage medication orders, compound and repackage medication and prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a CCAPP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacists (ACP) as a Pharmacy Technician.

Additional Required Qualifications:

2 years+ Regulated Pharmacy Technician with Alberta College of Pharmacists. Prior hospital pharmacy experience including but not limited to: patient order entry and verification, repackaging with use of automated packaging equipment, certified for final product checking with the use of an automated packager, sterile compounding, drug distribution such as ward stock, inventory medication management and procurement. Demonstrate proficiency in the following: communication (verbal and written), interpersonal abilities, organizational and problem solving skills, ability to work independently and in teams as required, computer skills, continual personal quality improvement and lifelong learning.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with multiple forms of either manual or online ordering of medications from multiple manufacturers/vendors using Meditech. Alberta Health Services Checking Certified in the last 2 years. 2 years+ experience with automated repackaging machines such as FastPak EXP & Verifier within the last 2 years. Experience with medication ordering via online access for pharmaceutical procurement. 6 months+ experience in retail pharmacy setting. Membership with a pharmacy professional organization.
