Your Opportunity:

The Patient Food Service Supervisor reports to the Manager of Patient Food Services, the incumbent is responsible for the coordination of day to day site food service activities at The Alberta Children’s Hospital. The position provides direct supervision to front-line food service staff and maintain an efficient operation of patient food services.


Responsibilities include performance management, recruitment, training, staff scheduling, payroll management and discipline of area employees. Responsible for monitoring operational performance targets including budget and inventory management to achieve quality food service goals using a customer-focused approach. Also responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations as well as implementation and monitoring of quality improvement, risk management and safety standards. Critically evaluates current state to create a service that is responsive to changes within the organization, meets demands and seeks opportunities for improvement. Communication and collaboration with the Nutritional Services Team (Clinical Dietitians) to ensure diet orders are implemented appropriately is vitally. With this position being at ACH you will be responsible to ensure the correct infant and pediatric formulas orders are processed correctly. Ongoing communication will other clinical team members to ensure correct therapeutic diets and formulas have been ordered will be a daily occurrence. In this position there is strong focus on clinical knowledge for therapeutic diets, infant and pediatric formulas. This position exercises considerable independence in performing duties and meeting management objectives. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

At minimum of three years of leadership experience in a food service industry involving hiring, scheduling and directing work to assigned employees. Considerable leadership experience in a unionized health care environment desirable with strong team building skills and the ability to handle multiple demands concurrently. Education must be accompanied by demonstrated leadership ability, organizational and time management skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must be proficient with software in a Windows XP environment - Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Candidate must have knowledge clinical therapeutic diets. Preferred with candidates have experience in Pediatric settings with experiences in pediatric and infant formulas.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience with CBORD is required. Ability to meet time-lines and to independently prioritize work with attention to detail and accuracy. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage human, financial and physical resources within an operating environment. Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals. This position requires a vehicle for business use. Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work-related travel is required on an occasional basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference given to candidates with a diploma/degree in Dietetics, Nutrition and Food Service Management or Dietary Technology. Other certificates such as Food and Beverage Management will be considered. Previous experience in a cold serve meal tray assembly cell, LEAN Six Sigma concept knowledge and focus on WHS would be considered assets. Formula Calculator, e-People (RMS) and e-Facilities are definite assets.
