Your Opportunity:

The FMC Postpartum/Labour & Delivery (Triage) Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a self-directed Advanced Practice Nurse, educated at a graduate level and functions in a collaborative practice model. The NP is responsible and accountable for provision of evidenced-based expert clinical care to perinatal women, their families and newborns. Clinical areas supported are Postpartum and Triage on Labour and Delivery. Job functions include but not limited to: Perform advanced comprehensive health assessments, order interpret and perform diagnostic tests. Formulate differential diagnoses and management plans through integration of patient information and evidence-based practice. Communicate assessment findings and/or diagnoses including outcomes and prognoses to patients/families. Prescribe and distribute pharmaceuticals, medical devices and other therapies. Utilize complex reasoning to safely coordinate and manage care for patients while promoting continuity of care. Thoroughly document the provision of care to patients. Provide emergent/urgent input into the management of complex patients in clinical areas. Act as an advocate and resource in the provision of competent, holistic and ethical care. Participate in profession-specific and inter-professional practice committees as required. Model inter-professional, collaborative practice in the healthcare team and promote respectful, open communication between healthcare providers.

As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Required Qualifications:

Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years experience in an acute care setting. Nurse Practitioner Certificate with final clinical focus in Family All Ages or Certification in Adult and Pediatrics. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to enable working directly with patients and family members. Ability to work as an effective member within a multidisciplinary team, FMC Maternity Care Centre. Ability to function independently. Excel at working in a dynamic fast-paced environment. Ability to work well under pressure and stressful situations. Ability to act independently and autonomously within their scope of practice, to include accepting referrals from: healthcare providers, patients, physicians and specialists.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years obstetrical/pediatric/NICU clinical experience in acute care setting. Current lactation consultant certification Ability to collaborate with members of the healthcare team. Ability to consult with and/or refer patients to other healthcare providers as required. Ability to provide education and counselling to patients/families/groups/communities as well as education and mentorship to other members of the inter-professional healthcare team.
