Your Opportunity:

The SHC is an innovative concept that is more than a “hospital.” It is built in a campus environment and will include inpatient, outpatient, and wellness services, as well as prevention and public health education and learning opportunities for community members. The hospital adheres to four key pillars of service: Collaborative Practice, Wellness, Patient and Family Centered Care and Innovation. The Cardiac Sciences department, at South Health Campus, is currently recruiting a full time Nurse Clinician position in the outpatient Cardiac Clinics. This position may be assigned to any of the outpatient Cardiac Clinics at SHC. The initial assignment will be within Arrhythmia Services, which includes the Atrial Fibrillation Clinic, the Syncope Clinic and General Arrhythmia Service. The Nurse Clinician in the Arrhythmia clinic is responsible for triaging and assessing referrals to the clinic for patients who are experiencing cardiac dysrhythmias. Working closely with the Physician, the incumbent assess patients and makes recommendations for treatment and follow up based on the assessment. The Nurse Clinician provides patient teaching related to a variety of dysrhythmias, Implanted Loop Recorders, cardioversions pre procedure and syncope and autonomic dysfunction testing. Nurse Clinicians (NC) in the Atrial Fibrillation Clinic are responsible for the management of patients who have or will need cardiac arrhythmia services, including antiarrhythmic medications and non-invasive testing. The NC also provides support for patients and their families and serves as a resource for other caregivers. The NC is expected to work collaboratively with South Health Campus team members as well as Nurse Clinicians working at the Foothills Medical Centre Electrophysiology department, where patients are referred for further testing and procedures.

As a Nurse Clinician (NC), you will be responsible for the coordination of an interprofessional team, in the provision of quality patient (client, resident) care in order to meet the operational priorities and requirements within a clinical setting. You will use an integrative leadership approach in assisting, planning, implementing and evaluating care needs, while assuming responsibility for staff assignments, patient flow and clinical resources. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Bachelor of Nursing Degree required. Minimum 6 years (equivalent to a 0.50 FTE) experience within the last 10 year in acute care cardiology required. Minimum 2 years of ambulatory experience, preferably in cardiac, in the past 5 years required. Current Cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation is required. Experience with Patient and Family Centered Care approach and philosophy.

Preferred Qualifications:

CNA Cardiology Certification. Ability to create/evaluate customized patient care plans by coordinating with physicians and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated ability in patient education utilizing a variety of educational approaches. Demonstrated commitment to professional development. Demonstrated strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Experience with Millennium Schueduler, OACCS, Netcare, Approach, SCM. Recent CICU, CCU or Cardiac Catheterization.
