Your Opportunity:

The University of Alberta Hospital – Outpatient Psychiatry Department is seeking a Mental Health Therapist Provincial for the Psychiatric Treatment Clinic (PTC). The PTC is a group psychotherapy program and provides mental health assessment, treatment and psychiatric consultation to clients enrolled to the program. The clinic offers a range of psychotherapeutic groups designed to support the treatment and recovery goals of patients. Case management to support client access to community based health and social services is also provided. Reporting to the Care Manager, the Mental Health Therapist (MHT) works with an interdisciplinary team of nine (9) clinicians including the team lead and several consulting psychiatrists. The Mental Health Therapist provides both individual treatment to assigned clients and group treatment to all clients participating in group psychotherapy treatment. The MHT engages in client treatment evaluation and outcomes, program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives. The program adheres to the Edmonton Zone Addiction & Mental Health Principles of Care including a focus on client centered care, collaboration between the care team and client, care that is trauma informed, concurrent addiction and mental health capable and recovery oriented. The MHT documents all service using an electronic medical record (eClinician).

Description:

As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to perform the restricted activity of psychosocial intervention utilizing a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of one of the following programs: Master's degree in Psychology. Master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy and who have Psychosocial Intervention Authorization. Master's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Master's degree in Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Registered Provisional Psychologist with an AHS internal supervisor (external supervisor may be considered). Full registration as a Registered Psychologist with CAP within three years from the date of hire. When AHS provides the supervised practice, a return for service agreement is required. Minimum of 3 years’ of relevant mental health experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge and experience with providing individual and group psychotherapy using an evidence based modality, e.g., psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural, interpersonal therapy; Motivational interviewing; Substance use disorders and/or process addictions.
