Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Department Manager, Pediatrics in the Calgary Zone, the Manager - Administrative Services supervises 30-40 AUPE administrative support staff with an operational budget over $2 million. The incumbent is required to work closely with the Department Manager and the other the Manager Administrative Services (MAS) as part of the Department of Pediatrics Leadership Team. The MAS works with the Leadership Team to facilitate and participate in the implementation of changes to the structure and processes in order to accomplish and improved outcomes for the Department. The MAS is accountable for all aspects of managing the support staff including; administrating the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, all Human Resource aspects of their area (recruitment, training, performance management, workload assignment, WHS), strategic planning, budget management, variance analysis, office space , office equipment and renovations. The incumbent must have a proven track record of building and maintaining positive working relationships, demonstrated flexibility, proven confidentiality, and the ability to manage change. The incumbent will be results-oriented and possess a strong consultative management style. The successful candidate must be dynamic, innovative, and a team player. The incumbent must be familiar with all the processes and policies within AHS as well as the U of C and demonstrate the core values of the organization and department. The incumbent may be required to fill in as necessary as backup for other members of the Leadership team and for the front line admin staff in case of emergent, unplanned, and unforeseen circumstances. Required Qualifications:

Post-secondary Degree. 5 to 7 years of related experience in a management and/or supervisory role of similar size and structure. 3-5 Performance Management and Union grievance experience. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching, and teaching. Advance skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Flow-charting, e-mail, PowerPoint as well as e-finance, e-manager, e-people (RMS and payroll). Excellent interpersonal, communication, organization, time-management and analytical skills. Must be able to cope under pressure to complete responsibilities in a fast paced environment characterized by frequent interruptions and situations demanding quick decisions with tight deadlines. Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills are necessary to anticipate, identify and independently recommend appropriate actions to complex administrative problems. Must be able to exercise judgment, tact, diplomacy and discretion when dealing with highly sensitive and confidential issues.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience in a complex healthcare environment ideally within AHS and the U of C. Experience in a healthcare setting dealing with Academic Physicians. Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreements. Experience in Financial Management and reporting.
