Your Opportunity:

The Manager Addiction and Mental Health (Children and Youth), is a key leadership role in the North Zone, Alberta Health Services reporting directly to the Director, Addiction and Mental Health Service. This position is responsible and accountable for providing the direction, leadership, operational management and organization over the activities of the Child & Youth Addiction and Mental Health Services and Prevention and Promotion Programs in Grande Prairie and surrounding area in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services. These activities also will include the integration of various resources to carry out these activities. This position is also responsible for providing Child and Youth Addiction & Mental Health program leadership across the North Zone. The Area Manager will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders in order to provide leadership to the Grande Prairie and Area Program, as well as form strong working relationships with provincial and zone wide stakeholders in the delivery of Child & Youth Addiction and Mental Health. Area Manager, Addiction and Mental Health, Child and Youth is also responsible for: Day to day operations; including time sheets, staff evaluations, work attendance, work performance, clinical and program standards; In collaboration with reporting Clinical Coordinators, ensure the following programs fulfill their mandates and function along the strategic priorities of Alberta Health Services: Children’s Mental Health Program, Youth Addiction Programs Liaison and collaboration toward the development of Children’s Acute Psychiatry Inpatient Program, Youth Day Program, Virtual Child & Youth Mental Health, North Zone, Prevention & Promotion Programs.

The Area Manager, Addiction and Mental Health, Children and Youth, manages, implements and evaluates the following functions, in accordance with AHS’ corporate policy and programs: Strategic Planning: As a member of the North Zone, Addiction and Mental Health management team, the incumbent may also be involved in the strategic formulation, development or administration of policy/programs to support patient focused care programs and delivery. Operational Leadership: Works within the framework for program delivery through the North Zone, Addiction and Mental Health, AHS. Relationship Management: Through significant interaction with internal and external partners and participants, influences the direction of key initiatives on matters related to AMH Program. People Management: Ensures the strategic use of human resources in providing the most effective and efficient delivery of client service/patient care. Change Leadership: Has the ability to initiate, implement and support new or modified approaches, practices and processes in the organization. Resource Management: Manages operating budgets for the designated program responsibility consistent with the plans and general guidelines established by AHS senior management. Risk Management: Promotes an environment that fosters quality improvement and a culture of safety for staff and patients.

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of baccalaureate Degree plus appropriate professional licences and designations. A minimum of five (5) years in a related role ideally in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity (healthcare experience an asset). A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

In addition, the incumbent will possess a record of accomplishment in the following areas: Progressive leadership experience in an Addiction and Mental Health environment, including five (5) years’ experience in a management role in related operations. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, client focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage human, financial and physical resources within an operating environment. Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within an organization and ideally managing within a unionized sector. Strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Effective leadership abilities combined with a strong commitment to operating within a team environment and the ability to motivate and inspire other to achieve common goals. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Ability to plan, organize and manage short and long term plans and projects and deliver customer-focused results.

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
