Barrhead is a vibrant, friendly rural community located one hour north of Edmonton. The Manager - Acute/ Emergency/ Operating Room/ Chemo Manager is an exciting opportunity to work with a progressive team and influence positive delivery of health care. The Acute Care Manager collaborates with regional programs, and direct care providers to ensure that patients receive quality care in a safe, competent and ethical manner. The Acute Care Manager provides leadership and direction for the Acute Care encompassing the Emergency Department, Acute Care, Chemo and OR. The manager coordinated clinical and educational staffing and administrative duties for the unit. The successful candidate is a decision-maker, change agent, coordinator, collaborator, liaison and communicator within the nursing department and with other facility departments. They are accountable for coordination and supervision of care delivery, clinical guidance and development of all supervised staff. The manager will be responsible for recruitment, retention and appraisal of staff, will engage in Workplace Health and Safety activities and manage Operating Expenditures and other tasks as appropriate.


The Acute Care Manager performs a leadership role in the Acute Care setting and reports directly to the Site Manager. He or She provides leadership through effective communication, ethical decision making and commitment to achieving established goals and objectives. Promotes best practice, ensures standards of care are met. He / she contributes to, plans, develops and implements program and service activities and monitors the quality of work performed.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate from an accredited Nursing program and is current with CARNA. Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing with a minimum of three years’ experience in an Acute Care setting required. Ability to work in a health care environment with professionalism and respect. Proven interpersonal skills, organizational. Time management skills and sound decision making. Is flexible, reliable and dependable and is able to work effectively independently and within a team environment and has the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve common goals. Demonstrates strong leadership skills, including the ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others.

Additional Required Qualifications:

A strong track record in establishing and maintaining a positive, effective working relationship with internal and external stakeholders.
