Your Opportunity:

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will have independent, interdependent and often overlapping roles on the health care team. You will uses nursing process including health assessment, planning, education, supportive counselling, and preventative and screening measures, and referrals and evaluation as appropriate. In your role, you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate as delegated and within the regulations, guidelines and scope of practice as per the CLPNA. You will play a role in improving access to immunization services, including identifying strategies to overcome barriers to immunization and forming partnerships with agencies to immunize hard to reach populations; you will also provide practical care while supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Northern Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $6,300. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Permanent and temporary employees working in excess of one (1) year whose work sites are above the 57th parallel are also eligible to receive an annual reimbursement of personal travel expenses to an annual maximum of $1,235. Eligible employees will be reimbursed for the cost of one (1) round trip, per calendar year, to any destination within Alberta. Travel must originate from a community above the 57th parallel to any destination within Alberta and cannot be carried over.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

This position requires successful completion of an approved immunization course within the first three months of employment. Minimum 2 years’ recent LPN experience. Must possess strong assessment, communication, organizational, problem solving and counseling skills. Must be able to work as a part of an interdisciplinary team. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision in a complex dynamic environment. Effective communication skills required, oral and written. Demonstrated decision-making skills. Ability to work in a fast paced, independent and changing environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Public Health nursing experience including immunization and Healthy Beginnings an asset. Other maternal/newborn certifications such as breastfeeding courses, and lactation consultant. Other recent nursing experience including: pre-natal, maternal/postpartum and newborn assessment, or working with young families or pediatric population is as asset.
