Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Ability to provide psychosocial intervention as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and while under the direction of an authorized practitioner required. Knowledge about common mental health issues/illnesses required. Ability to identify signs and symptoms of mental health issues required. Knowledge and ability to assess mental status required. Knowledge and ability to recognize and intervene in crisis situations required. Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and clinical judgment in monitoring and Managing all types of aggressive behaviour required. Ability to recognize, assess for suicidal risk and to intervene immediately with suicidal client as appropriate. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to provide medications to mental health clients including psychotropic drugs required. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to assist with mental health treatment such as: electrotherapy (ECT): pre and post ECT care, assist with ECT treatment required. Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Legislation, such as Mental Health ACT required. Demonstrated knowledge of the formal certification process and implications required. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team required. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills required. Valid driver’s license is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Mental health experience preferred Mental Health Certificates an asset.
