Your Opportunity:

The successful candidate will perform all routine Blood Bank procedures at the University of Alberta Hospital including, but not limited to: pretransfusion testing, antibody investigations, blood product handling and manipulation, test processing and result management, quality control, equipment maintenance, computer entry and accreditation activities. You must have the ability to organize and prioritize tasks while adapting to changing circumstances and interruptions. You will also be able to listen, comprehend and orally respond to or relay information, directions or questions in person, over the phone or in writing in an accurate, clear and concise manner.

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Your communication and interpersonal skills enable you to build and maintain relationships, facilitate teamwork, resolve conflict and manage change. You are an organized, independent worker committed to achieving the goals of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology. You have maintained up to date technical skills and knowledge of current methodologies and/or instrumentation with your area. You demonstrate excellent problem solving, decision making and troubleshooting skills. You are approachable and reliable.

Preferred Qualifications:

Recent experience in a high volume Transfusion Medicine Laboratory is preferred. Familiarity with the Sunquest Laboratory Information System and other general computer applications is an asset.
