Required Qualifications:

Must meet one of the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Health Care Aide (HCA) competency requirements: Certified - certified as a Health Care Aide through a Government of Alberta licensed post-secondary institution using the Provincial Health Care Aide Curriculum. Evidence required upon hire; or Substantially Equivalent - an educational background deemed equivalent as compared to the approved Provincial Health Care Aide Curriculum. Evidence required upon hire; or Deemed Competent - assessed as competent by an Alberta regulated nurse, using the Provincial Competency Assessment Profile Tool. Evidence required upon hire; or candidate would be required to register for a HCA course from a Government of Alberta licensed post-secondary institution using the Provincial Health Care Aide Curriculum within 155 hours or 6 weeks (whichever comes first), and successfully complete the course within 12 month timeline from date of hire.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must be a graduate from an educational program using the Provincial Curriculum for Health Care Aides or have met the criteria outlined in the Substantially Equivalent Competency Guidelines, or within 155 hours of being employed have commenced a training program based on the Provincial Curriculum for Health Care Aides (HCAs). HCAs must complete the training program within 1 (one) year of being employed. Basic Cardiac Life Support –Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) from Heart and Stroke Foundation, current within the last 12 months, required. Handling, moving and lifting heavy or awkward equipment and/or individuals are required Ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction as required. Effective communication in verbal and written English is required. Effective interpersonal and communication skills with patients/clients, families, visitors and team members. Well-developed time management skills. May be required to work a variety of shifts and shift patterns. Note: This position requires a vehicle for business use. Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work related travel is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Enrollment in the Alberta HCA Directory is preferred. Minimum of two years current experience with one year in a community based setting preferred. Medication Assistance Certificate or prior experience in Medication Assistance is preferred. Previous experience in the health care field and work with older or chronically ill individuals is preferred.
