Your Opportunity:

The position provides management of volunteer resources coordination. This position is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating Volunteer Resources programs. Provides professional expertise in volunteer management processes; recruitment, selection, screening, placement, orientation, recognition, evaluation and administration. Develops and maintains strong working relationships with key stakeholders and leaders. Ensuring adequate volunteer pool is maintained with appropriate volunteers. Supervision and ongoing evaluation of volunteer performance. Monitoring and evaluating volunteer placements and programs. Planning for continual improvement of volunteer involvement through facilitation and feedback from all stakeholders. Initiating activities and communication with sites to foster a positive working environment between staff and volunteers. Promote and educate within the community and facility the value of volunteers and the role of the department. Ensures adherence to all AHS policies and procedures. Represents AHS in and to the community to foster positive working relationships. To host volunteer recognition events Liaison with other healthcare professionals to support Patient Family Centered care. Build and maintains relationships with other members of the Volunteer Resources team. Developing personal knowledge of emerging trends and new methodologies in order to react to changes in the environment. Advocates for volunteerism and the profession of Volunteer Resources Management.


Working in conjunction with the Manager, Volunteer Resources, Central Zone, the position has the responsibility for the development, execution, coordination and evaluation of standardized work methods, protocols, policies and procedures related to best practices of volunteer management. The position works with all areas within the health care system to develop meaningful volunteer programs that support AHS vision, mission and goals and provides direction to healthcare professionals on how to match volunteer motivation with the needs of the program. In collaboration with clinical educators provides and hosts training opportunities for volunteers. The position works with the staff team to ensure the determined outcomes for the volunteer program are met and to ensure a positive and rewarding experience for the volunteer. The position supports a patient and family centered program model in developing volunteer programs. The position ensures client needs, concerns and issues are seamlessly addressed in a timely and professional manner. This position participates in various site and department meetings and committees as required to ensure the efficient and effective Volunteer Resources operations. Develops working relationships with staff liaisons who are supporting and supervising the volunteers. Prepares monthly reports and maintains up to date database. Provides formal and informal recognition. Adheres to best practices and implements processes and procedures as per department. Attends both facility and community meetings to increase awareness of the department and provides presentations to inform, educate and recruit. Maintains a current personal knowledge of emerging trends and new methodologies in Volunteer/Human Resources management. Ongoing evaluation of Volunteer programs.

Required Qualifications:

A minimum post-secondary diploma in Volunteer Resources/Human Resources Management, Business Administration or Management in Human and Social Services or an equivalent combination of experience, volunteer management, education and training may be considered. Personal volunteer experience is essential. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. This position requires a vehicle for business use. Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work-related travel is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Supervisory experience is preferred. Previous experience of 3-5 years in a similar leadership role within a volunteer service environment in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity is preferred. Healthcare experience and an understanding of the concepts of Patient and Family Center Care principles an asset.
