Alberta Health Services Addiction and Mental Health Strategic Clinical Network™ (AMH SCN™) is looking for a Senior Practice Consultant to serve in a critical role for an exciting $4.9M implementation science research trial to test the impact of e-Mental Health (eMH) tools in 10 communities across Alberta. The position will work directly with the Senior Project Manager, Principal Investigators, Clinical Advisory Committee, and Scientific Advisory Committee to lead collaboration with community partners providing addiction and mental health supports and services through Alberta Health Services, Primary Care Networks, School Districts, Youth Hubs, and Municipal Partners. The role will collaborate with clinical leadership in AHS, primary care, and schools to co-design, implement, and evaluate e-mental health integrated clinical pathways for youth and young adults across multiple organizations. The position will involve partnership development and management, mapping out existing clinical supports and services, mapping our patient journey pathways between service settings, developing local implementation plans for diverse service settings, developing communications for stakeholder groups from families to policy makers, and monitoring the initiative post-implementation to provide ongoing support to scale and spread. The incumbent may Co-chair the Clinical Advisory Committee, as well as supervise staff and lead functional teams or projects with a provincial scope and complex nature and provide coaching and mentorship to various operational groups in practice changes. This is a 24-month term position with the possibility of renewal, funded through a Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation Grant, the Addiction and Mental Health COVID-19 Response Grant, and by a Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Health System (PRIHS) Grant awarded to the AMH SCN.

Description:

The Senior Practice Consultant (SPC) supports the mandate of the AMH SCN by leading the development, implementation and evaluation of complex clinical practice improvements in the area of e-mental health supports for youth and young adults across diverse service settings in the province. The position provides leadership to operational teams in implementing and sustaining clinical best practices and provides expert consultative services. The Senior Practice Consultant will work collaboratively with clinical and operational leadership at a provincial and a community level supporting the development and implementation of these pathways in AHS clinics, Primary Care Networks, and school settings in ten communities across Alberta. These communities span from Lethbridge to Peace River and includes two First Nations. This work is of an advanced nature and the incumbent will manage complex issues during the change implementation process. The incumbent takes a strategic perspective to identify innovative and effective solutions to support practice change which includes interpreting organizational needs and recommending solutions to complex issues. In collaboration with SCN leadership, the SPC provides focused leadership to quality and healthcare improvement initiatives to ensure SCN activities are delivered within scope, cost, time and quality. The Senior Practice Consultant will: Gather, analyze, and synthesize leading practices and research data to inform implementation strategies leading to new approaches to care delivery; Develop and implement innovative approaches while working closely with organizational leads to address system issues with sustainable solutions; Support community operational teams in adoption of practice changes; and Guide evaluation of change initiatives and development of performance measures and targets. enter information in this field.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in a clinical health-related field or equivalent years of applicable experience. Minimum 5 years of experience in delivering addiction and mental health supports and services to youth and young adults in a primary care, tertiary care, or school setting. Minimum of 2 years experience in quality improvement and change implementation of large-scale projects. Experience in engaging diverse stakeholder groups such as primary care, schools, community organizations, and youth organizations in partnership initiatives. Proven ability to foster relationships and partnerships with stakeholders. Knowledge of the health system and leading practices applicable to change implementation. Demonstrated leadership skills, especially leading multidisciplinary teams, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Experience with clinical, health systems, or social science research including quantitative and qualitative methods and knowledge synthesis. Effective communicator with positive influential skills that support an orientation to patient and family-centered care.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Successful leadership experience in clinical practice change environments including project planning, execution, reporting, monitoring and evaluation. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple project deliverables on interdependent and overlapping timelines. Experience working in complex environments with multiple stakeholders and governance frameworks. Experience with developing evaluation and measurement frameworks (including benefits realization strategies), and designing reports to meet the needs of various stakeholders Experience in the participation of senior level planning, research projects or teams, project analysis, outcomes, report development and dissemination of results. Knowledge and experience in application of business planning, modelling concepts, and program/project management theories, principles and practices. Significant experience in problem solving, concerns resolution, investigation, and negotiation. Strong facilitation and mediation skills. Demonstrated ability to foster relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, patient focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services; ability to relay or explain complex issues or difficult situations. A proven track record of demonstrable leadership and professional accomplishments.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with First Nations communities including partnership facilitation and knowledge of OCAP. A designation in quality improvement, process improvement, project management, or change management such as PMP, ProSci, or AIW.
