The Department of Pediatrics, invites applications for a temporary Clinical Assistant supporting the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Peter Lougheed Centre. Calgary is a rapidly growing cosmopolitan city with a population of over 1.2 million people and an excellent school system. Description:

Clinical Assistants are an alternate provider role for medical doctors who typically don't qualify for independent practice in Alberta. Clinical Assistants provide clinical support while registered for supervised practice with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta’s (CPSA) Limited Practice Registry. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of AHS Medical Staff as members of a multidisciplinary team delivering care to complex patients. Appropriate supervision and support is provided and will begin with a formal orientation and assessment. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must submit a Curriculum Vitae and Clinical Assistant Eligibility Pre-Screen Letter from AHS with their application. Please format your Curriculum Vitae in the following order: biographical data, academic record, medical work history, non-medical work, previously and currently held professional licenses, lastly other relevant information. Failure to attach both documents will result in automatic rejection of the application. The successful applicant will be registered with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta and will be responsible for maintaining a Limited Practice License.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Pre-screening requirements include: Legal Status: Applicants must be a Canadian citizen or a Permanent Resident. Medical Degree: Applicants must be a graduate of a medical school located outside of Canada and the United States, listed in the Foundation of Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) International Medical Directory (IMED). Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME): As a requirement for licensure by the CPSA, applicants must have completed at least one full year (ie: May 1st to April 30th) of hands-on training after having obtained his/her medical degree. Clinical Experience: Preference will be given to applicants who have recent experience in an acute care facility; specifically, those who have had specific experience within the last 3 years. English Language Proficiency: As a requirement for licensure by the CPSA, applicants must have taken the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in Canada with minimum required scores of 7.0 in each of the components within 24 months prior to registration. Knowledge Test: As a requirement for licensure by the CPSA, applicants must have taken and passed at least Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Exam, level 1 (MCCQE1).

Preferred Qualifications:

Recruitment will show a preference for: Experience in an acute care facility within the last 3 years. Experience in pediatrics and/or neonatology is seen as an important asset.
