Your Opportunity:

Once approved through the prescreening process by AHS IMGs can apply to all Clinical Assistant positions and if hired you will have to complete a six month probation and assessment period. Upon successful completion you will work in a full-time and permanent acute care coverage role that addresses clinical and/or surgical coverage shortages. We are looking for professionals with previous experience in the care of patients in Family and General Medicine. Clinical/Surgical Assistants will provide afterhours coverage in these program areas; after-hours coverage is a combination of primarily evening/nights and weekends as well as some daytime service. Clinical/Surgical Assistants will be integrated into the current healthcare team, which includes residents and attending physicians. Successful candidates will be hired as AHS employee with annual remuneration per the CSA Salary grid. Hours are 2610 annually, which on average is 300 hours in a 6-week period.

Description:

Clinical Assistants will provide day and after-hours coverage in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) in three acute care sites in the Edmonton Zone. The provider will care for neonates including preterm and term infants with a range of high acuity in the level 3 NICU’s to convalescing infants in the level 2 NICU’s. Clinical Assistants will be integrated into the current healthcare team, which includes fellows, NP’s, residents and clinical associates. Successful candidates will be hired as AHS employee with annual remuneration per the CSA Salary grid. Hours are 2610 annually, which on average is 300 hours in a 6-week period. Responsibilities/Duties: All clinical activities are performed under the supervision of the neonatologist and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary care team. Some of the clinical assistant responsibilities can include, but are not limited to, completing admissions, ordering and performing selected diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, assessing and responding to the patient’s medical needs as they arise and planning care throughout the patient’s hospitalization. Providers will also be involved in resuscitation of infants at birth and in providing neonatology consultations for infants in postpartum wards and the emergency room.

Required Qualifications:

Only International Medical Graduates (IMGs) who have submitted a complete application package to ACSAP and shared the applicable documentation according to the requirements listed on the program website are eligible to apply. Applicants must have one of: A current Limited Practice Register – Clinical Assistant license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. A current active application with the Alberta Clinical and Surgical Assistant Program (ACSAP). Applicants with recent experience in the clinical management of neonates and experience in the Canadian health system are preferred. Preference will be given to individuals with neonatal training in Canada.
