Your Opportunity:

We have a unique opportunity for an experienced, dynamic, and innovative senior health care executive for the position of Chief Zone Officer (CZO), Central Zone. The CZO for Central Zone will partner with the Zone Medical Director (ZMD) to lead the delivery of high quality, patient and family centred care within the Zone. With an operating budget of almost $900 million, there are over 12,000 staff and volunteers (clinical, clinical support and non-clinical) and over 700 physicians providing expertise and care. The CZO is responsible for making critical health care decisions and addressing numerous challenges in providing safe, and sustainable, health care to Albertans in the Zone, with a particular focus on primary care, chronic disease and public health prevention.

Description:

The CZO, Central Zone reports directly to the Vice President and Chief Health Operations Officer, Central & Southern Alberta, and works in a dyad leadership model with the Zone Medical Director (ZMD). The CZO and ZMD share operational decision-making responsibility within the Zone, and provide vision and leadership to local facilities, programs and clinical teams. Together they work to foster community engagement and build strong relationships with community partners to ensure success in meeting community needs. The CZO and ZMD are accountable for ensuring the alignment and implementation of strategic planning, continuous quality improvement and process re-engineering to deliver on a commitment to excellence and enhanced performance, as well as evaluating quality, accessible, sustainable and integrated health services within the Central Zone. The CZO is accountable for establishing and maintaining strong, positive relationships with other senior leaders and key stakeholders. While fostering innovation, large-scale integration, and a culture of consistency, high quality, and patient- and family-centred clinical care, this position will develop and implement zone plans that align with AHS’ overarching strategic plans, goals, values, and vision. The CZO effectively manages financial, human and capital resources, and ensures effective, integrated and seamless delivery of community, ambulatory, acute and continuing care, as well as addiction and mental health services, and proactively identifies and resolves issues that have an impact on services delivery. Additionally, this position develops and implements a Quality and Safety Framework.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate possesses a graduate degree in health care leadership, business administration or a related health-care field and progressive senior leadership experience including at least 10 years of successful and progressive experience in a senior management role within a complex health care organization. A strategic thinker who takes into account long-term goals assessing options and implications, you have a successful record of achievement as a leader, including extensive experience in building leadership capacities, and improving and innovating service delivery in large and diverse range of health functions. Recognizing the benefits of health care delivery within an integrated framework, you have a successful record of leading major transformations and cultural change. A charismatic leader, you have demonstrated capability in leading self, engaging others, developing coalitions, achieving results and bringing about transformational change at a systems level. You display a collaborative leadership style and have the ability to foster a climate of co-operation amongst, and build solid relationships with, community leaders, public agencies, government, boards, committees and other partners.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Senior leadership experience within a health care organization.


Preferred Qualifications:

Clinical background preferred, however commensurate leadership experience within a health care organization at an executive level would be considered.
