Required Qualifications:

Masters in Theology and/or Spirituality/Religion or a clinically related field with confirmation of educational equivalency obtained from the Academic Assessment Committee of the national professional association, Canadian Association for Spiritual Care/Association canadienne de soins spirituels, (CASC/ACSS). 2nd Advanced Level, Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) with commitment toward certification as a spiritual care practitioner, (CASC) within three years. Current Membership or Associate Membership of CASC/ACSS. Certificates – Complete as per requirements of service area: minimum of CPR and BLS.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: demonstrated ability to collaborate respectfully and work effectively with various spiritual, religious, cultural groups, and all levels of staff. Knowledge of and skills to address the needs of people encountering crisis, suicidal ideation, coping with cancer and treatments, loss, bereavement and end of life care. Capacity and comfort with counseling skills and paradigms to provide one on one counseling with oncology patients and their families in a formal setting (e.g. booked counseling appointments). Self-reflective practices, assessing the impact of one’s own spirituality, beliefs, values, assumptions, and power dynamics in relationship with clients. Proactive in developing and implementing effective strategies to resolve issues and problems, creating safe spaces, and building bridges. Two years of relevant spiritual health care experience as a certified spiritual care practitioner. CASC Certified Spiritual Care Practitioner; certification equivalency; or eligibility for certification.
