Your Opportunity:

The SHC is a full service hospital that provides service to Calgary in areas including Cardiac Science, Women’s Health, NICU, Emergency, Surgery and Mental Health. The SHC is more than just a "hospital." It is a campus environment and will include inpatient, outpatient, and wellness services, as well as prevention and public health learning opportunities for the community. The campus will also include a YMCA and retail services. The SHC has four key pillars of service: Collaborative Practice, Wellness, Patient and Family Centred Care, and Innovation. These pillars are guiding the development and delivery of service to all patients and families at SHC. Under minimal supervision and within established guidelines, this Administrative Support III position is responsible for a variety of clerical and reception functions that support the smooth and efficient operation of the Surgery Clinic. Key responsibilities include checking patients into clinic, reception duties, chart prep and booking follow up appointments through Millennium Schedule and using confidential patient information.


As an Administrative Support III, you will require advanced administrative or specialized skills and knowledge to support complex procedures, practices and initiatives within a department or program.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Medical Terminology Course. Minimum 1 year experience in a hospital setting/medical setting required (within the last 5 years). Demonstrated ability to problem solve, multi-task and work independently. Proficient computer skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills (including telephone etiquette). Demonstrated understanding of and experience in Patient and Family Centred Care. Demonstrates ability to cope with frequent interruptions and an ever changing environment. Demonstrates positive and effective interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrates initiative, flexibility and independence in a team atmosphere. Demonstrates ability to adapt with change. Ability to problem solve and work independently. Ability to interact collaboratively with patients, families and multidisciplinary team members. Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information and other hospital information.

Preferred Qualifications:

Post-secondary education (Office administration. Business Administration Diploma, Unit Clerk or Medical Office assistant). Experience in ambulatory care/outpatient clinic setting. Booking experience. Proficiency with Clinibase, SCM, Net Care, Cerner and Millennium Scheduler.
