Your Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly skilled, team oriented and dynamic individual to join our team in Brooks. As an Addictions Counselor III, you have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of Albertans. As a member of the treatment team, your responsibilities will include assessment, treatment, case management and aftercare planning, using best practice guidelines. You will provide a welcoming and engaging environment during group and individual counselling to assigned clients, deliver psycho-educational sessions and provide services to clients with concurrent disorders and complex needs. You will facilitate the referral process for treatment clients through effective use of community resources, including self-help, AHS resources, and Funded Agencies. As an active, collaborative and supportive team member, you will require excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work independently to make you successful in this role. The community of Brooks is located in southeast Alberta on the Trans-Canada Highway, approximately 185 km southeast of Calgary and 100 km northwest of Medicine Hat. The community embraces the arts, offers many recreational activities and celebrates many annual community events, Brooks is the destination for the ultimate outdoor aficionado.


As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum three (3) years' experience in addictions counselling.
