Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Laboratory Manager Northern Lights RHC/Rural East, as the Laboratory Technologist II – Hematology Technical Support, you will have the opportunity to use your advanced technical skills and judgement to assist Laboratories across the North Zone providing technical expertise on things such as instrument work ups, quality control, troubleshooting, procedures and processes in conjunction with pathologists, laboratory Hematology and Chemistry managers and operational leadership. This position will allow you the opportunity to showcase your organizational, leadership and project skills. Work location is negotiable. This position is open to qualified CLXT or MLT candidates. Candidates must have the ability to influence others through well-developed oral and written communication; ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations; ability to demonstrate tact and courtesy in dealing with patients, staff, and physicians. This position works closely with the Chemistry Consultant Technologist and Provincial Technologists in similar positions.

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) II, you will coordinate the day-to-day operations and the quality control function of the laboratory. You may have advanced technical knowledge or are the lead responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of Laboratory Information System (LIS) support, site education, quality assurance or laboratory research programs. Your responsibilities may include coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring and assigning work to MLT l's, providing technical advice, problem solving and trouble shooting on a variety of laboratory instruments. In addition, you will participate in the technical aspects of the laboratory, ensuring the performance of standard and specialized procedures.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA) OR Alberta College of Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologists (ACCLXT). Minimum of five years of full time Laboratory experience, with three years part time (minimum) experience in Hematology and Chemistry within the past five years. Experience with quality control, reagent and instrument work ups. Experience with procedure development and review. Experience with technical troubleshooting of instruments, equipment, reagents and quality control. Demonstrated experience with method or equipment evaluation including statistical analysis. Training and/or demonstrated experience related to quality improvement, conflict resolution and customer service. Experience with LIS user acceptance testing. Experience with development and supervision of effective teams. Extensive experience in use of computer systems and software applications. Experience with Accreditation standards, implementation and addressing deficiencies. Demonstrated experience and or knowledge of Laboratory Safety practices. Ability to give and receive constructive criticism. Organizational, time management and sound decision making skills. Demonstrated experience and professional development of leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working on and troubleshooting Sysmex analyzer, ACL analyzers, Ortho Vitros analyzers, Beckman Access, i-STAT and Triage Meter. Experience in Unity and Caresphere Middleware. Experience in Connect Care/Epic LIS. Supervisory experience in the past 6 years.
