Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Technologist II, Supervisor, or Manager, this position is responsible for performing a variety of duties including, but not limited to: routine bench duties in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures, Immunohistochemistry staining – manual and automated, frozen sectioning, immunofluorescence staining, manual and automated, all quality control as required. Prepare antibody dilutions. Operate, maintain and perform troubleshooting of all instruments, equipment and procedures. Respond to non-conforming events. Monitor department supply inventory and act appropriately to maintain. Contribute to the ongoing improved operation of the technical areas. Participate in the validation and assessment of procedures and equipment under the direction of the senior tech. Participate in the training and orientation of students and staff and in evaluating their progress. Collaborate on the preparation of manuals and SOPs. Maintain, clean, decontaminate and organize work areas based on LEAN Six Sigma principles and established SOPs. Maintain awareness and consistently practices all safety precautions and procedures including WHMIS. File, retrieve and discard specimens/blocks /slides as per retention guidelines. Completes annual competencies. Enter information into the LIS. The work has high volume associated with it, and priorities that are constantly changing. Detailed accuracy is extremely important. The job has minimal to no control over workflow or service demands. There is continual exposure to disruptive noise. There is continual exposure to interruptions.
Description:
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Anatomic Pathology experience with in last 6 months, including microtomy. Able to work with exposure to chemicals and gloves. Chemicals may include but not limited to formalin, xylene, bleach. Physical effort requiring manual dexterity is required (more than 75% of time on the job) as well as prolonged standing or walking.
Preferred Qualifications:Immunohistochemistry experience in a clinical setting with in last 2 years. Experience with frozen tissue section processing and renal biopsies.
