Your Opportunity:
The Sheldon M Chumir Health Centre provides a wide range of health services to residents living in and around the Calgary Core, including 24 hour Urgent Care, Public Health, Home Care and Mental Health. The laboratory plays a key role in the interdisciplinary team within the hospital and community. As a member of the interdisciplinary team this position works primarily days and evenings on both weekdays and weekends. Occasional night shifts may be required depending on operational need. Reporting to the Clinical Supervisor or Manager, and under the direction of the Health Centre Medical Laboratory Technologist II, the MLT/CLXT will be responsible for providing exemplary patient care by applying the regional policies and procedures. The scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to highly complex procedures and activities within the laboratory department. In accordance with Health Information Act (HIA), Freedom of Information and Privacy (FOIP) and other privacy legislation in effect the incumbent shall comply at all times with APL / AHS’s Information Privacy and Information Security policies. The successful candidate may be occasionally redeployed to Airdrie Community Center Testing Lab, Cochrane Community Health Center Testing Lab or South Calgary Health Center Testing Lab as operational needs require. Qualified Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) or Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist (CLXT) will be considered for this position.
Description:
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Proven ability to work within a computer-based environment. Demonstrate proficiency in core laboratory theory including hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, and transfusion medicine dispense by applying theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment in accordance with standard operating procedures. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills showing attention to detail and accuracy. Demonstrated ability to organize, set priorities and multitask. Proven ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills, especially troubleshooting skills. Ability to facilitate change positively by encouraging others and accepting change within the workplace. Demonstrate a customer service attitude and delivery of excellent customer service by effectively meeting customer (internal and external) client needs by means of building productive and respectful customer relations and taking responsibility for customer satisfaction. Demonstrated personal leadership, regardless of role, by leading themselves through change, building positive, respectful and collaborative working relationships. Recent experience in Chemistry and Hematology including Manual Differentials.
Preferred Qualifications:1 year experience in an Urgent Care Testing Lab or Rural Lab. Connect Care training including Medical Lab Technologist or Combined Lab and X-ray Technologist. WellSky TM non-testing Technologist.
