Your Opportunity:

Oilfields hospital is located in the quaint community of Diamond Valley (formerly Black Diamond), Alberta. With a population of approximately 5,300 residents in town and thousands more in the surrounding Foothills the hospital provides services to a multitude of patients. Located approximately 50 kilometers southwest of south Calgary and only just over an hour drive to the Rocky Mountains this community offers rural living with opportunities to enjoy the city or the mountain lifestyle. This position also includes shifts at Okotoks Health and Wellness Centre. We are actively seeking a Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist with experience and knowledge of policies and procedures to join our dynamic team in providing the highest level of service to our clients. As a member of the interdisciplinary team this position is responsible for working all shifts as assigned by the site Senior Technologist. Specifically, this position collects specimens, performs sample handling and manipulation, ECG’s, reports results, and performs x-ray examinations within the scope of practice of a Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist. Reporting directly to the on-site senior technologists and the Regional Supervisor, the CLXT will be responsible for providing exemplary patient care by applying the regional policies and procedures. The scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to highly complex procedures and activities within the laboratory department. In accordance with Health Information Act (HIA), Freedom of Information and Privacy (FOIP) and other privacy legislation in effect the incumbent shall comply at all times with APL / AHS’s Information Privacy and Information Security policies.

Description:

As a Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist I, you will perform procedures in both the laboratory and in diagnostic imaging, typically in rural sites. You will work as a member of the inter-professional team and be responsible for collecting and analyzing biological specimens, conducting X-ray examinations, ECGs and reporting results. Your responsibilities include preparing patients, venipuncture and micropuncture, routine equipment maintenance, maintaining supplies and performing quality control procedures as required.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma from an accredited program in Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology (CLXT). Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Combined Laboratory and X-ray Technologists (ACCLXT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrate proficiency in core laboratory theory including hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, specimen procurement and handling, and transfusion medicine dispense by applying theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios. Must have current experience in Diagnostic Imaging. Good organizational skills and ability to assume responsibility. Proven ability to work within a computer-based environment. Must be able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with patients/clients, families, staff, interdisciplinary team members and personnel from other departments in a fast pace changing environment. Ability to work independently when necessary. Proven ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills. Ability to facilitate change positively by encouraging others and accepting change within the workplace. Demonstrate a customer service attitude and delivery of excellent customer service by effectively meeting customer (internal and external) client needs by means of building productive and respectful customer relations and taking responsibility for customer satisfaction. Demonstrated personal leadership, regardless of role, by leading themselves through change, building positive, respectful and collaborative working relationships. Current BCLS-HCP certification required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years of experience as an CLXT within a rural facility is preferred.
