Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is seeking a Clinical Supervisor to lead Routine Chemistry, Urinalysis, Reagent Room, Wash-up, and Edmonton Zone Point-of-Care services at the University of Alberta Hospital. We are looking for a collaborative, adaptable leader who builds strong relationships and communicates effectively. You bring sound judgment, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Experience in team leadership, conflict resolution, and time management is essential. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, you will provide day-to-day leadership to ensure the safe, efficient delivery of high-quality laboratory services. You will support staff development and performance while contributing to departmental and organizational goals. Description:
The Clinical Supervisor oversees day-to-day operations and provides leadership in staff management within their assigned area, with the flexibility to support disciplines such as Special Chemistry, Toxicology, and Trace Elements as needed. The role includes staff recruitment, onboarding, and training, ensuring compliance with safety and organizational standards, and managing performance through coaching, evaluation, recognition, and corrective action, while supporting investigations, disciplinary processes, and grievance resolution. Using strong analytical and problem-solving skills, the Supervisor addresses operational challenges, implements best practices, and supports quality, safety, and efficiency. In collaboration with Laboratory Management, they contribute to policy development, operational planning, and continuous improvement initiatives, while monitoring operational and financial performance and resource needs through data analysis and reporting. The Supervisor also supports staff development and succession planning and collaborates with stakeholders and other departments to optimize resources, support new programs, and maintain effective service delivery.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologist of Alberta (CMLTA). Maintenance of regulatory certification is required. A minimum of 5 years of experience in a medical laboratory. A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a supervisory or leadership role and demonstrated, conflict resolution and/or change management skills. Demonstrated engagement of team members, supplemented by strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Excellent organizational skills and ability to complete tasks accurately within a varied, dynamic environment. Demonstrated ability to build, foster and maintain professional relationships.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Experience working in and supervising in a unionized setting. Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office. Knowledge and practical experience with EPIC.
Preferred Qualifications:
Recent experience as a supervisor in a mid- to high-volume urban hospital laboratory. Knowledge in Chemistry and Point-of-Care Testing.
